Volume 2 covers an important period in Hammer’s history as they start to make Anglo American co-productions securing all important US releases for their movies. It was also the period that Hammer discovered Down Place which they converted into their Bray Studios. The trade press were again amazed at how well they adapted to life in country house studios and recognised that it allowed them to develop ambitiously loaded schedules that kept their repertory team in constant work thus making the crew the envy of the British film industry. The films included many noir crime thrillers as well as court room, boxing, motor racing, aviation smuggling, jazz musical and cold war thrillers, with a sprinkling of P.C. 49, The Saint, Whispering Smith, Robin Hood, a Death Wish precursor, a handful of comedies and three sci-fi films culminating in the classic The Quatermass Xperiment.
